Salary at National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA)

Superannuation is fantastic. The starting salary is a little lower compared to costs of living, especially with relocating for work, but salary progression is good with a pay increase in the first six months.

My salary is very generous for an entry-level job.

I am unsatisfied with my pay as I am still on probation as a graduate. Understandably, with decades of professional experience, this is a back step financially, but is a means to an end to get my foot in the door with the APS.

As a graduate, we start off a wage too low, and with our qualifications there should be a tier award rate if you have a Masters or PhD .

Currently APS3 whilst on grad program

While the starting salary is a bit lower, salary progression is fairly quick.

Seems very fair that grads will start at APS4 next year. Would be good to see it extend to Career Starters, they are absolutely underpaid.

Relocation expenses covered, time for cultural competency training, opportunities to travel and work in different business areas, competitive Super.

As a First Nations person working for this organisation, it is important for me to be familiar with First Nations issues. For me, this enables me to say, read articles about the issues that First Nations people experience, but doing my work time - for me, this is a perk.

Travel and accommodation is paid for on regional rotations.

Lots of training and development opportunities, the ability to travel for work and partnership with other departments.

Personal leave (sick leave) is upfront. This makes the workplace very accessible, so even though I started recently I don't have to build flex in order to take time off when I'm sick. This is one thing I am concerned about when applying to work in other places.
