The Bachelor of Medical Science with Honours is designed to provide students with training in scientific method and in the verbal and written communication of scientific results.
Entry Requirements

A candidate must have:

(a) passed units to the value of 144 credit points in Years 1-3 of the Bachelor of Medicine - Joint Medical Program or 144 credit points from the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine; and

(b) been granted leave of absence from the Bachelor of Medicine - Joint Medical Program or the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine for the purpose of completing this course.

Graduate Diploma

The Graduate Diploma in Counselling prepares graduates to work as university-qualified registered counsellors in a diverse range of counselling contexts.
Entry Requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification; or

(b) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma or AQF Level 9 Masters or AQF Level 10 Doctorate degree in any relevant* discipline; or

(c) satisfy UNE by means of other relevant* professional experience by submitting a Statement of Service from your employer/s and a resume outlining a minimum of three years' full-time (or equivalent) relevant* professional experience and training undertaken in the past 10 years.

*Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to: counselling, psychology, social work, nursing, teaching, human resources, life coaching, community services, children's services, youth work, care for the aged, care for the disabled, residential client care, welfare studies, human welfare services, pastoral care and medicine.

Bachelor (Honours)

Honours in Criminology is an intensive year-long program that enables students to research a topic they are passionate about.
Entry Requirements

1. Admission to candidature shall be determined by the Head of School on the recommendation of the Course Coordinator.

2. Excepts as provided in Rule 3, a candidate for admission to the honours course shall have:

(a) satisfied all requirements of an AQF level 7:
(i) Bachelor of Arts majoring in Criminology or Bachelor of Criminology from the University of New England;
or
(ii) Bachelor of Criminology in the Bachelor of Criminology/Bachelor of Laws from the University of New England;
and

(b) achieved a grade point average of 5.0 (Credit); and

(c) attained at least Distinction standard in 12 credit points at 300 level in Criminology and CRIM244 or equivalent; and

(d) passed units to the value of at least 48 credit points in the subject in which the candidate wishes to proceed; and

(e) have fulfilled any additional requirements prescribed and published by the School or area concerned;

3. With the approval of the Head of School a person who has fulfilled the requirements of an equivalent AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification of a university or other institution and who meets requirements considered by the school to be equivalent to those specified in Rule 2(b), (c), (d) and (e), may be admitted to the honours course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Criminology with Honours.

Candidates admitted under Rule 2(a)(ii) shall have completed all requirements for admission to the degrees of Bachelor of Criminology/Bachelor of Laws before being awarded the Bachelor of Criminology with Honours.

The Bachelor of Psychology with Honours is our premier course designed for high-performing students who are aiming for a professional career in Psychology.
Entry Requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) be qualified for admission (see Admission Undergraduate and Postgraduate (Coursework) Rule and Admission Undergraduate and Postgraduate (Coursework) Procedures); or

(b) hold a three-year AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree which includes a three-year sequence in Psychology accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council, completed within the last 10 years; or a three-year AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree and an AQF Level 8 Graduate Diploma degree which includes a three-year sequence in Psychology accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council, completed within the last 10 years; and have achieved a GPA of at least 6.25 in the 200/300/400-level Psychology units within the accredited Psychology sequence of units.

Please note: satisfaction of these requirements does not guarantee a place in the program as there is a quota on Psychology Honours admissions and selection is based solely on academic merit.

Assumed knowledge is any two units of English.

Recommended studies are any two units of Mathematics.

Students with previous studies in psychology must have achieved sufficient grades to satisfy the progression requirements of the UNE Psychology with Honours degree.

The Master of Disability Practice is designed to prepare graduates to work effectively with people who have disabilities.
Entry Requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification in a relevant discipline*; or

(b) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate in a relevant discipline*; or

(c) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Diploma or Bachelor with Honours in a relevant discipline*; or

(d) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification or an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma, in a non-relevant discipline; or

(e) satisfy UNE by means of other relevant professional experience by submitting a Statement of Service from your employer/s and a resume outlining a minimum of three years' full-time (or equivalent) relevant professional experience and training, taken in the past 10 years**.

Applicants applying under Rule (d) or Rule (e) must submit a Statement of Service.

(c) hold an approved AQF Level 5 Diploma or AQF Level 6 Advanced Diploma and at least two years full-time equivalent experience in the area of service provision; or

(d) have at least five years of full-time equivalent work experience including at least three years in an area of service provision**.

Applicants admitted under Rule (b), (c) or (d) must submit a Statement of Service from their employer.

The Master of Urban and Regional Planning offers a thorough grounding in urban and regional planning both to graduates wishing to enter the profession and to practising professionals wishing to upgrade their knowledge.
Entry Requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree in a discipline related to the built environment including architecture, planning, environment or geography; or

(b) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning (including at least one 500-level unit) from the University of New England or equivalent AQF Level 8 qualification (including at least one 500-level unit) and attained at least a Credit average in 48 credit points.

The Master of Scientific Studies is a course work plus research degree designed to provide specialised training in a specific field of study.
Entry Requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline* at the level of Credit (GPA 5) or above; or

(b) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma or Bachelor with Honours in a relevant discipline* at the level of Credit (GPA 5) or above.

*Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to: Biochemistry; Biology; Botany; Chemistry; Genetics; Geology; Mathematics; Microbiology; Physics; Physiology; Statistics; and Zoology. A degree will be considered relevant to a nominated major if it includes study that covers the minimum assumed knowledge. Where it is not clear from their academic background, applicants may include a cover letter with their application describing how they have achieved the minimum assumed knowledge.

Minimum Assumed Knowledge for Each Major

Biochemistry: two units of biology and two units of chemistry or equivalent

Biodiversity Science: two units of biology and two units in any biological or earth science at 200-level or above or equivalent

Biomedical Science: two units of biology and two units of chemistry or equivalent

Chemistry: four units of chemistry or equivalent

Genetics: two units of biology and two units of chemistry or equivalent

Mathematics: two units of (calculus-based) mathematics and an additional two units in mathematics at 200-level or above or equivalent

Medicinal Chemistry: two units of chemistry and an additional two units of chemistry, biochemistry or pharmaceutical science

Quantitative Ecology: one unit of statistics or probability, one unit of (calculus-based) mathematics, and two units of ecology, physical geography, or related sciences, or equivalent

Zoology: two units of biology and two units in any biological science at the 200-level or above equivalent

Note: Students wishing to complete the course on a full-time basis are strongly encouraged to have greater than the minimum assumed knowledge and to begin their study in first trimester.

The Master in Planning and Management of Natural Hazards takes a multidisciplinary approach to looking at natural hazards and how society can build resilience in the face of natural hazards.
Entry Requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree from a recognised university in a related field of study, for example, Urban and Regional Planning, Geography or Environmental Science; or

(b) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate in Planning and Management of Natural Hazards from UNE and attained at least a Credit grade point average in 24 credit points; or

(c) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Diploma in Planning and Management of Natural Hazards from UNE and attained at least a Credit grade point average in 48 credit points.

Applicants must meet the University's English Language Requirements for Admission Rule.
