Richelle Perrie

Today, I am liaising with various stakeholders, both internally and externally surrounding the coordination and scheduling of Cultural Awareness Training for Western Power employees from our providers across all the Depots and Perth office.

5.30 AM

After laying in my comfy bed listening to approximately three to four alarms going off, I finally roll on out and get the day started! The usual routine for me - shower, get dressed and have breakfast, followed by hiding some treats and activities for our one-year-old Australian Shepherd x Border Collie in the yard. This usually ends with me running out the door after getting side-tracked by playing with her!

How could anyone say no to this face?

I jump in the car and head straight to Perth office in the city.

6.45 AM

I arrive at work, put my lunch in the fridge and make my coffee ready to start the day.

7.00 AM

First item on my to-do list is to check all my emails. I usually have quite a lot that require an immediate response, so the first half an hour of my day is generally consumed by this.

7.30 AM

The upcoming weeks are very busy with the planning and scheduling of some very large events and activities in the Diversity & Inclusion department. I will usually look through my calendar to double check if there are any changes for the day. Today is a little quieter than usual as one meeting has been rescheduled to another day, and two others have been moved to the afternoon. I will typically use this time to ensure that I have everything prepared for the meetings later in the day that may require updating.

9.00 AM

At present, there are a lot of Cultural Awareness Training sessions occurring which require a host to facilitate, the host is usually our Aboriginal Engagement Officer or myself and today, it is myself. Prior to the session, we are required to test the functionality and set-up to ensure a smooth training session for both the facilitator and participants. Once this test is completed, I will assist the facilitator with an introduction to the training.

9.30 AM

From now until lunch I test my multi-tasking skills with a very busy morning. While remaining logged into the live training session on one screen, I will continue working on tasks that are in progress on the other two screens. Today, I am liaising with various stakeholders, both internally and externally surrounding the coordination and scheduling of Cultural Awareness Training for Western Power employees from our providers across all the Depots and Perth office.  Once the training concludes at 11.30 am I thank the attendees and the facilitator, gather any feedback and then close out the session.

Following the training, I am required to conduct a brief follow up meeting with the Aboriginal Engagement Officer to ensure they are across all feedback from the training just conducted as well as any updates regarding upcoming sessions.

12.00 PM

Thankfully there are no meetings over lunch today, so I am off to have a quick bite to eat and then I will be straight back to some more meetings.

12.30 PM

Straight after lunch, I have two meetings back-to-back. The first meeting for the afternoon is with Stakeholders from various departments within Western Power to discuss the exciting events Western Power is planning to organise for Reconciliation Week. This meeting involves a lot of coordinating and delegation of tasks.

A quick run to the next meeting and I just make it on time. This meeting is with one of our Employee Network Groups, to discuss the activities, opportunities and planning behind NAIDOC Week, Reconciliation Week and Western Power’s Innovative Reconciliation Action Plan.

2.30 PM

Following the meetings, I am required to initiate a lot of behind the scenes planning which involves conducting run sheets, plans and reaching out to a lot of stakeholders. I will continue to plan as much as possible before I head home.

4.00 PM

If I have nothing overly urgent, I will tidy up my area and log off for the day.

4.45 PM

I will arrive at home, get changed very quickly and round up Naia (our dog), we tend to go for a big walk to tire her out as soon as we get home just to make sure she doesn’t miss out on exercise.

6.30 PM

Dinner Time - this is the busy time in our house, typically my wife will cook dinner and I will prep the cat’s and dogs’ dinner. Once we are all fed, it is shower and relax time in our household.
