Peter Yin

I have a couple of meetings with Area Managers to review all risks in the Network Risk Register recorded within their Area and work through any required updates. It’s also a good time to have their feedback on the system for future improvements.

7.00 AM

I wake up, take a shower, and head straight to the kitchen to make myself a cup of coffee, a much-needed pick-me-up to start my day.

7.30 AM

I leave my house and make my way to the office. It’s a 40-minute commute from my home to work so I normally spend some time reading news. It helps me stay informed about what is happening in the world and my local community.

8.10 AM

I arrive at the office and grab my second coffee of the day at the cafeteria on the ground floor. Sometimes I grab something to eat as they have different selections every day.

After breakfast, I check my emails and my automated workflows for the Asset Performance function’s Network Risk Register, a register that we use to record and maintain network risks associated with Western Power’s in-service assets throughout their lifecycle. A daily check is always helpful just to make sure they are running as expected. I also checked my upcoming schedule for the day ahead and it will be a busy day for me.

9.00 AM

This morning I’m attending the team’s weekly meeting. My colleagues are already there, chatting and catching up on each other’s lives. This is a perfect opportunity to share where I am with my tasks, any blockers in the way and if I need any help. We also share safety related information, concerns, or highlights to increase our awareness as we take safety seriously.

10.00 AM

The meeting concludes and I get to work. I dive into my tasks, making sure to prioritize what’s most important. Today, I have a meeting with Power Training Services (PTS) to discuss an interactive training module that I am developing. A training module involves collaboration between several functions before going live on our Learning Management System (LMS), so it is crucial to make sure every requirement is met to avoid unnecessary rework.

12.00 PM

It’s time for lunch. I usually have lunch with other graduates in the courtyard. Sometimes, we go out and have lunch as there are so many places to go to near the Head Office. We chat about our plans for the weekend and any exciting news we have to share.

1.00 PM

Back to work. The afternoon is just as busy as the morning. I have a couple of meetings with Area Managers to review all risks in the Network Risk Register recorded within their Area and work through any required updates. It’s also a good time to have their feedback on the system for future improvements.

2.00 PM

After the risk review meeting, I follow up with risk submitters for progress updates. Not every engineer is 100% familiar with the risk management process as they have their area of expertise, so I set up meetings with them to sit down and go through the process and help them be confident in using the system. I also encourage them to enrol on the training course I developed just to have a better understanding of the process.

4.00 PM

I leave work and head to the train station. Before I leave, I look at my calendar for the rest of the week to make sure I do not miss any deadlines and be prepared for meetings.

5.00 PM

I usually get home around 5.00 pm, cook dinner, and catch up with my roommates. We chat about our days and watch some anime together.

10.00 PM

I head to bed and listen to some calm music that could help me sleep and be ready for another day.
