LGBTQ+ at Bureau of Meteorology

The Bureau champions LGBTQIA+ inclusion and building a supportive environment where everyone belongs.

The Bureau strives to be a model of an inclusive culture where diversity of thought and background is valued to provide better outcomes for our people, customers and the Australian community.

We are committed to building an inclusive culture that celebrates everyone for who they are, inclusive of sexual orientation and gender identity.

We want everyone at work to feel safe, valued and respected for who they are and to feel comfortable bringing their whole self to work.

The Bureau has recently become a member of Pride in Diversity – Australia's not-for-profit employer support program for all aspects of LGBTQIA+ workplace inclusion. As part of our membership, we have access to a variety of resources including research, publications and videos on a range of LGBTQ inclusion topics.

LGBTQIA+ Bureau initiatives include:

  • The LGBTQIA+ online course is designed to improve employees' understanding of the LGBTQIA+ community.
  • LGBTQIA+ Celebrations -  On International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) Day Bureau employees from all over Australia come together in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer friends and colleagues.
  • Employee Network - Storm Pride is our staff network promoting LGBTQIA+ inclusion and a workplace where sexual and gender diversity is accepted and celebrated. Our network is open to all staff and allies and takes a visible and proactive stance in the workplace on LGBTQIA+ inclusion.
