Entry Requirements

As per Rule 4 and HDR Admissions and Enrolement Policy. Prior to applying applicant should find a potential supervisor and discuss their proposed topic. Applicants will be considered who have a Bachelor degree with upper second class Honours or higher from a recognised tertiary institution; a research Masters degree with at least two thirds of the degree comprising a thesis; a coursework Masters degree or Graduate Diploma which includes a research project or thesis of 10,000-20,000 words (minimum 25% research component of the entire degree): a qualification at a level from another tertiary institution considered equivalent by the Dean of Graduate Research. Note: International students must meet the University English Language requirement for admission.

Please note that admission to the Master of Occupational Therapy is highly competitive and that achieving the entry requirements does not guarantee an offer for this course. Applicants who meet the entry requirements are ranked and offers are made based on the number of places available.

* This course uses a minimum GPA requirement for prior tertiary education and equivalent ranks as part of the admission process.
* Applicants with previous higher education study must have completed the Bachelor of Exercise Science (53J), or the Bachelor of Psychological Sciences (53F) at the University of Tasmania or hold an approved Bachelor's degree in health or a health-related discipline from another Australian university.
* This course does not accept applications based on VET/TAFE study.
* This course does not accept applications based on work or life experience.
* In the last five years, applicants must have completed the equivalent of:
* two units (25 CPU) of human anatomy and physiology, including neuroscience.
* one unit (12.5 CPU) of study focused on social perspectives in health, such as psychology or sociology, and
* one unit (12.5 CPU) study of research methods; and/or evidence-based practice.

Masters (Coursework)

Underpinned by the scientist-practitioner model, this course aims to equip you with advanced skills in assessing, diagnosing, and treating complex clinical psychologist presentations.

Applications for the Master of Clinical Psychology (Advanced Entry) program are only accepted from those applicants who have general registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA OR an existing Area of Practice Endorsement with AHPRA, and who have attained a minimum entrance requirement of a Lower Second Class Honours (2B) psychology degree or equivalent at the commencement of the course.


Applicants should note that meeting minimum entrance requirements does not guarantee entry to the program. Applications need to be submitted on-line through the University of Tasmania Admissions website by the end of September. All applicants must satisfy the School of Psychological Sciences that they are suitable candidates for professional training in psychology. Short-listed applicants will be required to attend an interview in November.


If you are accepted into this postgraduate psychology program you will need to maintain your Registration from the Psychology Board of Australia for the duration of the degree.


Overseas applicants will also need to provide proof of English language proficiency. The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) has specified that it is mandatory for all graduates seeking registration with the Psychology Board of Australia to demonstrate that they have achieved an overall IELTS score of 7.0 (academic module) with a minimum score of 7 in each of the four components (listening, reading, writing and speaking). Test results will generally need to have been obtained within the two years preceding the application for registration. For more information about registration requirements for overseas applicants refer to the Psychology Board of Australia. Please note: International students should also refer to the International General Entrance Requirements for further information.
