Culture at Department of Defence - Civilian Engineer Development Program (Navy)

9.0
9.0 rating for Culture, based on 18 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
The culture is excellent. There's no workplace politics and everyone is very supportive, understanding and helpful. Unlike many private companies, people are not trying to get one over on you or doing unethical things to climb the ladder

Provided with relevant courses to perform tasks. - Opportunity to liaise with people across Defence and work alongside Navy uniformed personnel. - Team is always there to support and provide with flexible working arrangement to ensure well-being of employees. - Best and supportive workplace to work for - can't say enough

The work culture here is great. Everyone is very friendly and inclusive. Also Defence promotes flexible working which gives graduates a lot of freedom when deciding their hours.

The company structure is very rigid with specific set out hierarchy for work delegations. But there is no sense of superiority or arrogance associated with that, everyone has been very nice and understanding no matter how high up the ladder they are. Within the office and on project everyone cooperates and listens, if you have any questions or are unsure of anything they are very happy to take time off to help you understand and teach you new things. It's a great workplace that is very friendly, we have even got a gym and fitness group going in the morning at the office now too. After hours we have get togethers every Monday at trivia night, a Friday after work drinks for everyone and just about to start a futsal team. Supervisors are available 24/7 for any emergency and the flexible work hours mean mornings aren't very stressful as you can arrive anytime between 7am to 10am.

Work life balance is a high priority. Minimising discrimination is a high priority. Everyone is very friendly, little workplace politics etc.

Working closely with teams is standard in the Department of Defence. I work in a team of specialised senior engineers. The Department of Defence is hierarchical but the expertise of civilian engineers is greatly respected at all levels of the department.

Work will often vary between self-guided and team work depending on the project and task. Team members have been very friendly and easy to work with, and always happy to assist if they can. Graduates often socialise together, easy to make friends. Working hours are usually very flexible within reason, and most teams offer an opportunity to work from home if needed

Great amount of socialising in this workplace and everyone is really friendly so it is easy to become motivated.

Company culture changes from area to area. Currently, office culture within my team is very casual. Team of approximately 5. Everyone is very easy to talk to. Do not feel intimidated to ask supervisors/cell leads with any questions. Everyone is more than happy to help out with issues regarding work or to answer any questions.

Culture is good in and outside the office. Lots of cooperation and everyone is willing to help or take the time to explain a task.

The people that you get to work with are very friendly and this is reflected in Navy's culture

Flexible working hours, flex time/TOIL, plenty of socialising within.

Department of Defence is very flexible in working arrangements and has the best work-life balance I have seen. Very much a strong culture and getting work done to the best of our abilities. Socializing with colleagues can be limited as public servants in Defence can be a bit older.
