What is the structure of the BHP graduate program?

BHP Team

There's an induction week where we were introduced to the plant, the charter values, and the overall structure of the program. At Olympic Dam, the graduate program has three rotations over two years for everyone apart from the mining engineers whose program is over three years.

For the first 8 months, you're placed into a team based on the discipline that you studied. Over the eight months, you get to learn the plant processes, the people and the role. The second rotation is allocated based on the needs of the business, but they do factor in preferences. The third rotation is based on your preferences. If you find at the start of your rotation that it's not quite for you, your line leader is pretty good at trying to navigate that and find what best suits you and the business, and how you can best offer the most of your value.

On the whole, your rotations will depend on your department. Most engineering roles have four rotations and mining engineers will have eight rotations within the 24-month period.
