UWA Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) PhD Scholarship

Coastal observations include a variety of tools, both traditional and novel, such as satellites, moored instruments, shore-based systems, and remotely operated vehicles. The Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) is a national collaborative research infrastructure which undertakes sustained observations of the oceans and coastal regions around Australia. UWA hosts two of the IMOS coastal observing infrastructure facilities: HF radar for surface current measurements and autonomous ocean gliders for subsurface water properties. New deployments are being initiated  in northern Western Australia.  This includes HF Radar, ocean glider transects and oceanographic moorings. This PhD project will primarily be concerned with the analysis of the integrated data sets in addition to developing numerical models with data assimilation.  As one of the most complex oceanographic regions around Australia this project will be highly challenging as well as satisfying to the student.
