The University of Western Australia (UWA), the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC/CAS) and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and are offering up to ten postgraduate research scholarships each year to students from the People’s Republic of China who intend to undertake a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at UWA to study in an area relevant to Square Kilometre Array (SKA) radio astronomy science. Applicants who are citizens and normally residing in China at the time of application, and enrolled or registered in a Chinese University, may apply for an ICRAR/UWA China SKA Scholarship.
The CSC will provide a living allowance as prescribed by the Chinese Government, a return airfare to Perth, Australia by the most economical route, and visa application fees. For further details of CSC funding please refer to the NAOC coordinator, Dr Lingmei Cheng (firstname.lastname@example.org).
UWA will provide a top-up scholarship, medical insurance, and a scholarship to cover tuition fees for 4 years. For further details of ICRAR/UWA funding please refer to the ICRAR/UWA coordinator, Prof Gerhardt Meurer (Gerhardt.Meurer@uwa.edu.au).
Approved projects can be optionally undertaken as a joint 2 PLUS 2 degree between UWA and a Chinese university. These projects must have a UWA coordinating supervisor and a Chinese co-supervisor. Within Australia, there is also opportunity for collaborative radio astronomy research with supervisors from other institutes, particularly CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science. Studentships may also be eligible for further support and recognition from the Australia-ChinA ConsortiuM for Astrophysical Research (ACAMAR) - see www.caastro.org/acamar

25 September 2017: Deadline for prospective candidates to apply directly to UWA International Centre for admission (for commencement in 2018). Please note that this round is only for joint 2 PLUS 2 degrees. The next deadline (around 10 February 2018) is expected to allow applications for full 4-year degrees. Applicants will need to complete the Postgraduate Student Application Form and attach a brief research outline (one to two pages) and details of any publications in learned journals or copies of any published papers. Please indicate that you are applying for a China SKA Scholarship. Applications should be copied to the NAOC coordinator.
From November: UWA will send out offer letters.
1 July 2018: Successful applicants will be expected to enrol and start their PhD study at UWA.
