Graduate Diploma

The Graduate Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning offers a thorough grounding in urban and regional planning both to graduates wishing to enter the profession and to practising professionals wishing to upgrade their knowledge.

The Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Practice provides students with an opportunity to develop advanced level knowledge about mental health assessment skills and evidence-based practice.
Entry Requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree; or

(b) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Practice from UNE; or

(c) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma, AQF Level 9 Masters or AQF Level 10 Doctorate degree; or

(d) satisfy UNE by means of other relevant* professional experience by submitting a Statement of Service from your employer/s and a resume outlining a minimum of three years' full-time (or equivalent) relevant* professional experience and training undertaken in the past 10 years.

*Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to: Counselling, psychology, social work, nursing, mental health nursing, community services, children's services, youth work, care for the aged, care for the disabled, residential client care, welfare, mental health support, pastoral care.

Bachelor (Honours)

Honours in Science is an intensive year-long program that enables students to research a topic they are passionate about.
Entry Requirements

1. A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor of Science from the University of New England or an equivalent AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification in a relevant discipline; and

(b) have achieved a GPA of 5.5 or better in the undergraduate degree; or a credit average in at least 24 credit points at 300-level in Science units from an area releated to the major/discipline area.

2. Admission to candidature shall be determined by the Bachelor of Science Honours Course Coordinator in consultation with the relevant Head of School.

3. Readmission to the Bachelor of Science with Honours will only be permitted with the approval of the Course Coordinator and will only be considered where a completely new research topic is proposed.

Graduate Diploma

This course can provide a formal qualification in the field of economics for graduates with little background in the discipline, or it can act as a refresher course in economics for those whose initial studies occurred some time ago.

Bachelor (Honours)

Students undertake Honours in one of the majors they studied in their undergraduate degree.
Entry Requirements

1. Admission to candidature shall be determined by the Head of School on the recommendation of the Course Coordinator.

2. Except as provided in Rule 3, a candidate for admission to the honours course shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor of International Studies from The University of New England; and

(b) have attained a minimum grade point average of 5.0 (Credit); and

(c) have achieved 18 credit points at Distinction level or better in 300-level units in the major in which the candidate wishes to proceed; and

(d) have passed units to the value of at least 36 credit points in the major in which the candidate wishes to proceed, except that with the approval of the course coordinator, up to 12 credit points of other units may be substituted; and

(e) have fulfilled any additional requirements prescribed and published by the school or area concerned.

3. With the approval of the Head of School a person who has fulfilled the requirements of an equivalent AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification of a university or other institution and who meets requirements considered by the school to be equivalent to those specified in Rule 2 (b), (c), (d) and (e), may be admitted to the honours course leading to the degree of Bachelor of International Studies with Honours.

Graduate Certificate

The Graduate Certificate in Science is a course designed for students who wish to expand on their undergraduate program.
Entry Requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline; or

(b) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Bachelor with Honours in a relevant discipline; or

(c) hold an AQF Level 9 Master in a relevant discipline; or

(d) hold an AQF Level 10 Doctorate in a relevant discipline.

Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to: Agriculture, Biochemistry; Biology; Botany; Chemistry; Computational Science; Ecology, Genetics; Geology; Mathematics; Medicinal Chemistry; Microbiology; Neuroscience (may include: Science, Medicine, Psychology, Nursing, Social Work, Education, Health, Counselling); Physics; Physiology; Statistics; and Zoology. A degree will be considered relevant to a nominated major if it includes study that covers the minimum assumed knowledge. Where it is not clear from their academic background, applicants may include a cover letter with their application describing how they have achieved the minimum assumed knowledge.

Minimum Assumed Knowledge for Each Major

Biochemistry: two units of biology and two units of chemistry

Biodiversity Science: two units of biology

Biomedical Science: two units of biology and two units of chemistry

Chemistry: two units of chemistry

Genetics: two units of biology and two units of chemistry

Mathematics: two units of (calculus-based) mathematics

Neuroscience: four units at second year level or above from neuroscience (see relevant disciplines)

Physical Sciences: two units of physics, two units of chemistry and two units of (calculus-based) mathematics

Regulatory Science: four science-based units with at least two units at second year level or above

Research Methods: four units from the discipline, or associated discipline, selected for completion

Statistics: two units of (calculus-based) mathematics and one unit of statistics

Zoology: two units of biology

Note: Students wishing to complete the course on a full-time basis are strongly encouraged to have greater than the minimum assumed knowledge and to begin their study in first trimester.

A candidate shall:

1. (a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology from the University of New England or an equivalent AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification in a relevant discipline; and

(b) have achieved a GPA of 5 or better in at least 24 credit points at 300-level in Clinical Exercise Physiology units.

2. Admission to candidature shall be determined by the Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology Honours Course Coordinator.

3. Readmission to the Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology with Honours will only be permitted with the approval of the Course Coordinator and will only be considered where a completely new research topic is proposed.

The Master of Education is a course designed for professional educators who shall be admitted on the basis of their prior qualifications and who, in most cases, will be working in school settings.
Entry Requirements

A candidate shall:

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 four year pre-service teaching qualification of a recognised Australian University or tertiary institution (or overseas equivalent as assessed by Australian Education International National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (AEI-NOOSR)); or

(b) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree and an AQF Level 7 or Level 8 or Level 9 one or two year pre-service teaching qualification of a recognised Australian University (or overseas equivalent as assessed by AEI-NOOSR); or

(c) hold an AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate in eLearning or the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Comparative Education) or the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Gifted and Talented: Teaching for High Potential) or the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Literature and New Literacies) or the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) or the Graduate Certificate in Gifted and Talented Education or the Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Australian Education or the Graduate Certificate in International Schooling, Education and Development or the Graduate Certificate in School Leadership or the Graduate Certificate in Special Education or the Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages award of the University of New England*; or

(d) hold the AQF Level 8 Graduate Certificate in Education Studies of the University of New England; or

(e) hold an AQF Level 7 non-initial teacher education Bachelor degree and an AQF Level 8 degree of Bachelor with Honours or Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of a University in a non-relevant discipline**; or

(f) hold a minimum AQF Level 7 Bachelor degree or overseas equivalent as assessed by AEI-NOOSR, and satisfy the School by the provision of evidence (by providing a Statement of Service on company letterhead documenting a minimum two years' full time equivalent relevant teaching experience) of adequate preparation for candidature**; and

(g) comply with the University's English Language Requirements for Admission Rule.

*Candidates admitted under Rule (c) who hold the Graduate Certificate in eLearning or the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (TESOL) or the Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages may speicalise in the same or different area or not specialise. Candidates admitted under Rule (c) who hold the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Comparative Education) or the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Gifted and Talented: Teaching for High Potential) or the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Literature and New Literacies) or the Graduate Certificate in Gifted and Talented Education or the Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Australian Education or the Graduate Certificate in International Schooling, Education and Development or the Graduate Certificate in School Leadership or the Graduate Certificate in Special Education must choose a different specialisation or not specialise.

This course provides students with the key skills to be an effective manager in any organisational context.
Entry Requirements

A candidate shall submit a Statement of Service for their work experience from their employer; and

(a) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification or above in a non-relevant discipline and at least two years full-time equivalent relevant work experience*; or

(b) hold an AQF Level 7 Bachelor qualification or above in a relevant discipline** and at least two years of full-time equivalent relevant work experience*; or

(c) hold an approved AQF Level 6 Advanced Diploma in a relevant discipline** from an Australian TAFE or Registered Training Organisation and have at least four years of full-time equivalent relevant work experience*; or

(d) hold an approved AQF Level 5 Diploma in a relevant discipline** from an Australian TAFE or Registered Training Organisation and have at least six years of full-time equivalent relevant work experience*; or

(e) have at least five years of fulltime equivalent relevant professional experience*.

*Relevant work experience refers to a position of responsibility in any organisation or industry context.

**Relevant Disciplines: banking, business, finance, human resource management, leadership, marketing, management, sales or any other discipline approved by the course coordinator.
