Training package entry requirements

Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who hold a current first aid and CPR certificate and have been recognised as competent through a recognised training program or recognition process against the following units of competency:

  • SISFFIT001 - Provide health screening and fitness orientation
  • SISFFIT002 - Recognise and apply exercise considerations for specific populations
  • SISFFIT003 - Instruct fitness programs
  • SISFFIT004 - Incorporate anatomy and physiology principles into fitness programming
  • SISFFIT005 - Provide healthy eating information
  • SISFFIT006 - Conduct fitness appraisals
  • SISFFIT014 - Instruct exercise to older clients
  • SISXCCS001 - Provide quality service

Before being accepted into the course applicants must:

  • Attend an interview
  • Undertake a Pre-training Review to document previous work experience and qualifications and assess suitability for the course
  • Complete a Core Skills Profile for Adults (CSPA) test to ensure the required language, literacy and numeracy levels are met for the course
  • Candidates must have a strong interest in Fitness and the Sport & Recreation industry

Career pathways

This course prepares you to work in the Sport & Recreation industry as a Personal Trainer, Gym Manager or a Fitness Centres and Community facility Manager. Work in a gym, studio, or run your own business, inspiring and training clients one-on-one.

After graduating SIS40215 Certificate IV Fitness qualification, professional registration can be sourced from the Fitness Accreditation bodies including Fitness Australia and/ or Physical Activity Australia.

Please note, additional training would be required for you to provide advice or exercise instruction to high-risk clients, other than to refer the client to an appropriate medical or allied health professional.

Credit for prior study or work

Skills Recognition is an assessment only process that may result in credits towards a part or full qualification. There is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process.

You can apply for Skills Recognition before you enrol in the qualification you are seeking. You can apply for Skills Recognition through one or both of the following processes:

  • Credit Transfer for formal training that might be equivalent to a new qualification or partial qualification
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for people who have relevant and current skills and knowledge that they have gained through non-formal or informal learning i.e. work or life experience.
