This technician level qualification is delivered on-campus and will provide you with the knowledge and a comprehensive set of technical skills to:

  • monitor the risk of cyber security attacks
  • implement appropriate software
  • use a range of tools and procedures to mitigate cyber security threats
  • protect an organisation from insider security breaches
  • develop systems to minimise network vulnerabilities and risks.

This course is available as part of the Free TAFE scheme as well as the JobTrainer initiative, for eligible students.

GOTAFE preferred entry requirements

Before being accepted into the course you must:

  • Attend an interview.
  • Undertake a Pre-training Review to ensure the course suits your needs and aspirations, and that you are likely to complete the course successfully.
  • Complete a CSPA test to ensure you have the required language, literacy and numeracy levels required for the course.

The selection criteria for this course are:

  • Ability to undertake training at this qualification level
  • Literacy and numeracy skills of an appropriate level
  • Keen interest in this industry sector
  • Ability to communicate with others
  • Computer skills in Word to a basic level and use of the Internet to an intermediate level
  • Ability to organise study and work independently

It is preferred that students have successfully completed ICT30118 Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology or previous studies in the IT area, or are competent to this level before entry into this course.

Skills Recognition is an assessment only process that may result in credits towards a part or full qualification. There is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process.

You can apply for Skills Recognition before you enrol in the qualification you are seeking. You can apply for Skills Recognition through one or both of the following processes:

  • Credit Transfer for formal training that might be equivalent to a new qualification or partial qualification
