With an increasing demand for Early Childhood Educators across Victoria, the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is your stepping stone into the industry.

You'll learn key skills for working with young children, including how to:

  • Support children's play, learning, behaviour, and development
  • Provide for young children's wellbeing
  • Work effectively, legally, and ethically

Our trainers are all experienced Early Childhood Educators, who are up-to-date with current industry standards and practices. This course is delivered on campus, as a school-based apprenticeship, as a traineeship, or as part of the VETDSS program.

This course is available as part of the Free TAFE scheme as well as the JobTrainer initiative, for eligible students.

GOTAFE preferred entry requirements

Before being accepted into the course you must:

  • Attend an interview.
  • Undertake a Pre-training Review to ensure the course suits your needs and aspirations, and that you are likely to complete the course successfully.
  • Complete a CSPA test to ensure you have the required language, literacy and numeracy levels required for the course.
  • Hold/obtain a current and successful Police Check and Working with Children Check.
  • School-based apprentices/trainees: Please apply through an Apprenticeship Network Provider with your employer to organise your apprenticeship/traineeship contract prior to applying for this course.

Credit for prior study or work

Skills Recognition is an assessment only process that may result in credits towards a part or full qualification. There is no formal training involved, although you may choose to complete further training as a result of the assessment process.

You can apply for Skills Recognition before you enrol in the qualification you are seeking. You can apply for Skills Recognition through one or both of the following processes:

  • Credit Transfer for formal training that might be equivalent to a new qualification or partial qualification
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for people who have relevant and current skills and knowledge that they have gained through non-formal or informal learning i.e. work or life experience.

  • Aspirations/career goals
  • Educational attainment and capability
  • Literacy and numeracy skills
  • Suitability for Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer
