About this course

This course provides arts leaders and managers with vital skills in managing arts and cultural organisations, facilities and programs. Students develop the ability to build relationships with audiences, and to tackle common industry challenges.

You will be taught by staff with extensive practical experience in management and leadership in the arts and cultural sectors. Through this study you will be able to engage with industry representatives, and be exposed to the work of cutting edge practitioners.

On completion of the Graduate Certificate, students are able to enter the Master or Graduate Diploma of Business (Arts and Cultural Management).

Entry requirements

Minimum admission criteria:

  • Bachelor degree or higher OR
  • two years of relevant work experience*, OR
  • evidence of academic capability judged to be equivalent

*Note: Must be in Arts and Cultural Management field

This program prepares graduates for leadership roles across the range of cultural organisations, including: performing arts, visual arts, festivals, community events, facilities, publishing houses, music venues, screen industries, cultural heritage and museums.

Course structure

To complete the Graduate Certificate of Arts and Cultural Management, students attain a total of 4 credit points of core units, plus completion of the 0-credit point module, MAI010 Academic Integrity Module. Most units (think of units as 'subjects') are equal to 1 credit point.

Credit for prior study or work

The University aims to provide students with as much credit as possible for approved prior study or informal learning which exceeds the normal entrance requirements for the course and is within the constraints of the course regulations. Students are required to complete a minimum of one-third of the course at Deakin University, or four credit points, whichever is the greater. In the case of certificates, including graduate certificates, a minimum of two credit points within the course must be completed at Deakin.
