The Graduate Certificate of Business Administration covers topics relating to organisational management, teaches you how to be a more effective business leader and expands your career options.

On successful completion of this course, students may enrol in the Graduate Diploma of Business Administration, Master of Business Administration (MBA), and combined MBA courses.

Entry requirements

Minimum admission criteria:

  • Bachelor degree in any discipline and three years relevant work experience,* or
  • five years of relevant work experience*

*Must be in a managerial or professional role. Applicants must demonstrate decision making responsibility in a range of areas such as budgeting, staffing, project management, financial management, or other relevant professional experience.

All applicants must provide the following with their application:

  • current CV,
  • current contact details of two referees who can be contacted concerning your work experience,
  • a one page brief outlining why you believe that your work experience would be valued by your MBA peers.

Deakin University offers admission to postgraduate courses through a number of Admission categories.

As a graduate you may find employment in areas such as financial planning, corporate governance, human resource management, marketing and a range of other areas

Course structure

To complete the Graduate Certificate of Business Administration, students must attain a total of 4 credit points, consisting of 3 credit points of core units, completion of the compulsory 0-credit point module, MAI010 Academic Integrity Module and 1 credit point elective unit.

Most units (think of units as 'subjects') are equal to 1 credit point.

Credit for prior study or work

The University aims to provide students with as much credit as possible for approved prior study or informal learning which exceeds the normal entrance requirements for the course and is within the constraints of the course regulations. Students are required to complete a minimum of one-third of the course at Deakin University, or four credit points, whichever is the greater. In the case of certificates, including graduate certificates, a minimum of two credit points within the course must be completed at Deakin.
