Please tell us about promotion possibilities and fill us in on what it takes to move up the ranks.
Most Graduates are successful at gaining post program employment. After this, there are plenty of internal opportunities to move around and work in different parts of the Bank.

There are alot of opportunities to move laterally through the bank so its easy to get a new career. Promotion opportunities are straight forward and you just have to adhere to whats required to get there. Such a high turnover means you get a good chance at a role if you indicate your interest.

Grads are put knowingly in teams where there are no career prospects - very bad move in my opinion

I think that leaders take an interest in the career motives and devleopment of their staff. In my experience, leaders have done everything in their power to make sure staff had the necessary tools to do their jobs appropriately and grow toward their next stage in their career. Hiring is kept internal as much as possible. As a graduate, there is plenty of support to obtain whichever role I am looking at, with exprienced roles even being offered in conjunction with trianing and development from the team .

Plenty of support is provided to us for rolling off, and we have been told that Transformation graduates are a sought after group of employees for the skills and experience they have to offer. As a result, we have plenty of opportunities that we can chase!

Promotion possibilities is based mainly on performance and value delivered to the team.
Graduate, Sydney
Heavily focused on networking to move up the ranks - lack of communication otherwise if you do not have a strong network
Graduate, Sydney
Opportunity is everywhere for the taking. Show you care, show you are prepared and show you are willing and the possibilities are endless.
Graduate, Adelaide
Wide range of opportunities to move in, however I am not sure if once rolling off, if there is a direct/many opportunities to move up in the ranks. Many "senior" type of people do not have senior-esque roles.
Graduate, Melbourne, VIC
Promotion possibilities are somewhat limited as the hierarchy is very steep (I am 3 steps away from State General Manager), however there is opportunities to move sideways
Midlevel, Adelaide
Big company, lots of room to grow and different opportunities
Graduate, Sydney
Optimistic
Graduate, Melbourne
Unable to comment until I have completed the grad program.

Career progression seems to rely on networking at Westpac - it is very relationships driven. Managers support you in creating development plans so that you can work towards your next role/promotion.
