Madeleine Stoermer

I’m leading a project to install a pallet labelling robot at our site. Throughout this project I’ve been coordinating purchases, and speaking to interstate colleagues and overseas technical support to ensure integration with our existing systems.

06.30 AM

I wake up and get ready for work at the Visy Board site. The drive to work is about half an hour so I grab a quick breakfast – some toast and a protein shake.

08.00 AM

I arrive at site and get set up at my desk in the office. I check my emails and prepare my agenda for the day. While I’m in the office I check in with the Maintenance or Operations managers to add any urgent items to my plan for the day.

8.30 AM

I spend my morning assisting with construction of a new Waste Water Treatment Plant at the site. I check in with the lead engineer and assist with directing contractors and interpreting engineering drawings.

12.00 PM

I take a break for lunch and make myself a cup of coffee. I use this time to catch up with my colleagues as well.

12.30 PM

I’m working on a project that uses machine downtime data to identify problem areas in production. Using the raw data that’s reported by our systems, I’m able to figure out what might be causing issues and what we can do to prevent them. I can also use data visualisation to better communicate where problems are occurring and communicate this to operational staff.

Visy - Madeleine Stoermer - meeting

2.00 PM

I spend some time identifying any issues that emerge with maintenance, quality, or operations systems. Sometimes this can be getting information from sales or depot representatives that something in our process is causing issues for them, and tracking it down to its root cause at the site. Having knowledge of all the site’s processes means I’m able to track down what’s going wrong and gather information from the right people.

I’m leading a project to install a pallet labelling robot at our site. Throughout this project I’ve been coordinating purchases, and speaking to interstate colleagues and overseas technical support to ensure integration with our existing systems. Today I’m developing some training material and instructions for our machine operators. I make sure to update our project record when I’m finished!

Visy - Madeleine Stoermer - checking projects

4.00 PM

Before I leave for the day, I make sure to schedule in time tomorrow to update my manager about my progress on projects. I send some last emails to anyone I worked with during the day to let them know what I have closed out and what still needs action, or to touch base with my colleagues in the Maintenance office or workshop before I leave.

Visy - Madeleine Stoermer - checking with colleagues before she goes home

5.00 PM

I get home and go for a short walk in the park near my house. I spend a little extra time cooking dinner tonight – it’ll pay off in pre-cooked meals for lunch for the next couple of days. I try and have an early night because I have a long day ahead tomorrow!
