Georgia Smith

5.00 AM

I’m definitely a morning person so I am always up early to head to the gym and some endorphins going and a clear mind, ready to tackle the day at the office. During summer I’m lucky enough to see the sunrise on my drive to the gym which makes it even easier.

Sunrise

After the gym, I head home for breakfast and coffee before getting ready for work.

7.30 AM

Commute to the office on the train and catch up on a good podcast on the way.

9.00 AM

Officially start the workday. I check in with the team in the office and have a quick chat about our weekends and anything that needs to be done today. I’ll then review any emails that have come in over night from our international clients and make a to-do list of what I need to do today.

The client we’re working with at the moment sends through some documents that need actioning. A lot of our work is based in Excel so I get into focus mode and start working through the documents and our corresponding workpaper. The great thing about our office is we have small break-out rooms which we can use if you don’t want any distractions and are great for just focusing on getting the task done.

My team in Brisbane then has a virtual catch-up with our team in Perth. Given the time difference, they’ve just started their day so it’s a perfect time to check-in. Being a nationalised firm, we have great flexibility to work with different teams in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth.

We have a chat about how everyone is going and discuss some outstanding items for the client we are all working with at the moment. We discuss any problems and work through them all together to find the best solution.

1.00 PM

After the team meeting, its time for lunch. Today I decided to bring in some left over food from last nights meal. I enjoyed this with my colleagues and caught up with other people in the office while we had lunch.

Team meeting

1.30 PM

Back into work, this time focusing on some expense testing. I work with my senior on the best method for this and we pick sample of expenses from the year that we will test. From there, I prepare the workpaper and request list for the client and discuss with them about providing some supporting documents and if there is any issues.

3.30 PM

Time for a caffeine boost. We are lucky enough to have a coffee machine in the office that we use every day. I make a coffee for myself and my senior and practice my (non-existent) coffee art skills.

Coffee

My senior and I have a quick chat about our upcoming trip to a mine site in Western Queensland. Working in audit provides great travel opportunities to go out and physically see clients operations and work with them.

4.00 PM

Starting to wind up for the day and making sure all the tasks I wanted to complete are ticked off.

I review some training materials and videos for a new system being rolled out across the firm for data analytics. It’s a very interesting and smart software program so I log in and have a go with the demo settings as I know we will be working with a client soon that will require this.

5.30 PM

I log off for the day and I head to my local netball courts for netball training with my team. I love playing netball, so you’ll usually hear me chatting about our game on the weekend or running off to a social game with friends.

Netball

If I haven’t got netball, I’ll squeeze in some CA readings on the train ride home and do some study at home if I’m feeling motivated.

9.30 PM

Time to wind down for the day and head to bed, ready for a new day tomorrow.
