Your role

What does the RSM accounting and business advisory team do?

  • The accounting and business advisory team makes sure companies’ financial statements comply with government regulations and industry standards.
  • RSM also advises on business strategies, provides companies with financial forecasts, and prepares management accounts that show an accurate picture of business performance.
  • The work helps put a set of figures into perspective.
  • RSM helps the clients understand what the management accounts say about the state of their business.
  • The company helps them identify key areas where they could improve performance.
  • RSM also provides daily advice to clients across a wide range of industry sectors.
  • Many do not have in-house advisers who can help them deal with day-to-day issues, so the team is often the first port of call when they have financial or business-related questions.

Training & development   

During the 12-month paid placement at RSM, you’ll be a key member of the team from day one. The program allows you to experience working in the accounting and business advisory team alongside current trainees and experienced members of the firm. You’ll get involved in client work very quickly, and get the chance to learn about different types of businesses from varying industry sectors. You’ll also benefit from on-the-job training from more senior members of the team and gain access to the internal training courses that will help you develop in the role.

About you

  • It’s important you also have confidence with numbers and great attention to detail.
  • You’ll often need to explain complex financial information, so you’ll need excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • What separates RSM from its competitors is the financial acumen the company demonstrates and expect that right from the start from the people.

Entry requirements:

At RSM, the company doesn't just look for good exam results. RSM thinks passion, personality, and originality are just as important.

You will need one of these:

  • 112 UCAS points across 3 A Levels or an equivalent level 3 qualification or
  • 104 UCAS points across 4 Scottish Highers/Advanced Highers or Irish Leaving Certificate (Higher Level)
  • Please note, that RSM does not accept General Studies, AS levels, or Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
  • A predicted honours degree from Robert Gordon University
