What's your job about?

Redox is a Trading company, we import raw materials from suppliers globally and sell them to customers domestically in Australia/New Zealand/Malaysia and the US within many varying industries.

I am responsible for purchasing and distribution of a select range of products that are used in stockfeed formulations within the Agricultural industry. This involves researching the market, tracking competitors/producers and establishing long-term supply relationships with manufacturers. Also negotiating purchasing agreements/contracts, tracking stock levels and guiding sales staff on contracts on the sell side. I also manage my own customer base for which I am their sales representative, so I propose sales contracts, gain product approvals for supply, generate new business leads & liaise with other product managers all with an end goal of increased sales and market share for the company.

You could say I am running my own business within the company, I am responsible for my own select part of the company and control the success or failure of what I am responsible for. There is certainly great responsibility bestowed upon me by Redox to make sure it is not a failure but I am confident in my ability to be able to keep growing my part of the business.

What's your background?

I grew up in Nth West NSW in the small country town of Moree.

Certainly the most important stages of my life were – (1) High School where I was a boarder at Toowoomba Grammar School. (2) University where I lived on campus for 3 years and had 1 year off campus (3) Achieving the job a Redox in 2004 (4) Living in London for 2 years from 2008-2010 (5) Retuning to my job at Redox on returning from the UK.

I applied for the job through the local paper (Courier Mail) after moving to Brisbane following completion of University.

Working in Financial recruitment in London during the GFC was a life event that shaped me as I learned how to push for business when the market was terrible and competition for the business was extreme. Over the following 6 months the company I worked for went from 150+ employees to around 58 by the time I left to come home. It certainly wasn’t a happy time but I certainly grew from the experience.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Yes, certainly. As long as you have drive, commitment and a willingness to learn and apply you skills.

Attention to detail, planning, Time management skills, relationship building skills, honesty, integrity, work ethic, negotiation, Must be able to push for business and not afraid to ask the question.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

I really enjoy setting a target or goal and achieving it, the feeling of gaining a large piece of business following weeks/months or even years of working towards it is quite satisfying. I also get to Travel internationally to visit suppliers and attend conferences/exhibitions which I also enjoy.

What are the limitations of your job?

As with all sales jobs I work towards Targets, having to chase a target monthly on an ongoing basis can get to you, especially if you are struggling to achieve the target that has been set. Also having a young family now travel can be quite challenging especially as work trips can come up at short notice.

3 pieces of advice for yourself when you were a student...

(1) Enjoy your youth, have fun! (2) Don’t stress too hard about what you are going to do after University if you haven’t decided yet (3) Start Investing (Financially and in yourself) as early as possible and don’t stop.
