I woke up to the sound of my alarm, ready to start the day.
8.30 – 9.30 AM
The first thing I do before starting work is check my emails and calendar so that I can prepare for the day. Our team is currently collaborating with a UK based product team on a GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) project which is one of the major compliance changes for the EU General Data Protection Regulation. I received an email from a product specialist with a marked-up version of the business requirements. I need to update the acceptance criteria in the user story for our developers to match the changes. I am getting used to receiving emails overnight from the UK because of the time difference, this has trained me to think ahead and collect all the required information for the UK team to process during the night.
9.30 – 9.45 AM
My team has our daily stand-up meeting at 9:30AM. Everyone gives a quick briefing about the work they did yesterday, if there are any blockers, and their plans for today. I get a coffee and have a quick catch up with my team members then head back to my desk.
9.45 – 10.45 AM
My team leader has assigned me some business analysis tasks scoped for the next sprint. Before I start writing a user stories I need to check on XPLAN (one of the major products of IRESS) to find the gap between the new business requirements and the current XPLAN functionality. I like to list the main tasks that I want to finish for the day in my notebook in order from the most difficult one to the easiest, then start working through them from the top.
10.45 AM – 12.00 PM
I received some internal requests from the training specialist team about one of the new features that our team delivered in the last sprint. After speaking to the training specialist, I raise a feature enhancement story for an email filter tab on XPLAN.
12.00 – 1.00 PM
It’s time for the gym, I like the High-intensity Interval Training class at the gym which is located across from the office. The class is short and refreshing, it is my way to charge my batteries before getting back to work.
1.00 – 3.00 PM
I login to XPLAN and upgrade the site for the UK locale to start testing the feature. This is a new feature for the UK locale which allows the XPLAN system to delete all relevant information on client request to comply with the new EU data protection regulations. After testing several times, I find some issues with the deletion ’wizard’, I check with the developer who works on this feature, then raise a bug regarding the feature.
I finish up with the user stories that scoped for our team in the next sprint and send an Email to the UK team for them to review the requirements. I will revise the stories again tomorrow morning.
I bring my computer back home today because I have a meeting scheduled with my teams Product Owner and the UK product team to discuss some requirements for another new feature on XPLAN, I prepare the documents required prior and the meeting goes well. After the meeting I have dinner plans with some girlfriends, it’s girl’s night Tuesday. We get Thai food and it is delicious.
I get back home it is already 9:30PM. I’m watching some tech talk videos before I go to sleep. It’s been a long day but I learned and progressed.
