Kylie

I’ve always had an interest in policy development and Australia’s engagement with the international community.

A proud Kuku Yalanji woman, Kylie joined DFAT as a graduate in 2020.

Since then, Kylie has helped Australians return home during the pandemic, coordinated engagement with ASEAN member states and New Zealand under our Free Trade Agreement, and worked on large-scale events and visits.

“I’ve always had an interest in policy development and Australia’s engagement with the international community. So, after completing a double degree in law and arts, with a major in international relations, DFAT’s graduate program was an obvious choice,” Kylie said.

“These past two years have taught me the importance of being flexible and open to new experiences, as well as the value of putting your hand up for opportunities outside your comfort zone.”

As a First Nations woman, Kylie said it was important to her that Indigenous voices are included in Australia’s foreign policy and international engagement.

“My career with DFAT, as a policy officer and hopefully in the future as a diplomat, will allow me to pursue this goal and highlight Indigenous excellence in Australia’s diplomatic efforts, at home and abroad.”
