Maggie Real–Rodriguez

6.00 AM

My alarm goes off early, I quickly get ready and head off to the gym. I try to go to the gym most mornings as I feel this sets me up for the day. I get home, get ready, eat breakfast and then catch the train into work. This time in the morning is a great opportunity to catch up on messages and socials.

8.45 AM

Arriving into work, I make my way up to level seven and quickly grab a seat with views of the Swan River. I usually sit somewhere different each day, Deloitte has implemented a hot desk policy and it’s a great way to increase collaboration and talk to other team members. At this time, I go through my emails, check my calendar and update my to-do list.

10.00 AM

Time to prepare for my client meeting – print reports, review the agenda and plan out questions. Before the meeting, I like to meet with my engagement director and manager to prepare and make sure we are on the same page. We usually use the whiteboard to brainstorm ideas.

11.00 AM

Walk to the client’s head office to attend the meeting. We sit down, I hand out the report and we begin to discuss our latest findings and ask questions regarding the scope of the audit and deep dive into the processes and controls.

12.00 PM

Time for lunch! It’s a sunny 30 degrees in Perth and it’s a great time to get out of the office and eat outside. Today it’s just leftovers from dinner last night, but sometimes I can’t resist getting a Mexican bowl from the food court downstairs.

2.00 PM

Fighting my food coma, it’s time to fire off a few more emails before I have a conference call with a global mining client to discuss an upcoming engagement. We discuss the plan for the audit, the timeline, schedule and what the intended output of the audit will be.

3.00 PM

Mid-afternoon and I’m back at my desk. I plug in my headphones and choose a playlist whilst I review the reports and documentation that the client has sent through from the meeting in the morning. Some of the documentation may require me to review documents against legislation, policies and procedures. If I have any questions, I can approach our local subject matter expert and ask for help. It’s great how there is always someone in the team who has the expertise to help guide me.

4.00 PM

Where did the time go! It’s almost the end of the day, and we have a team meeting to discuss upcoming projects, events and how the team is tracking. Best part – the food and drinks which are provided.

5.15 PM

Before I head home, I make sure to send through any final emails and plan out my workflow for tomorrow.
