Coming from an engineering research background, I applied for the CommBank Risk Management program because I’m naturally inquisitive, love helping people and like to understand how businesses work. When deciding which graduate program, I chose CommBank without hesitation as my first impression of the Bank’s culture was that it was genuine, warm, collaborative and innovative.
It’s been a wonderful experience so far, with various opportunities offered within Risk Management to rotate into Credit, Operational and Market Risk teams among others. I’m currently rotating within Institutional and Corporate Credit Risk Team and receiving training sessions both formal and informal (on-the-job coaching). In these rotations I’ve contributed to deal structuring and strategy setting through credit analysis of clients in industries as varied as retail, real estate, manufacturing, industrials and government. The best part of these rotations is being able to tap into the Risk and wider Bank network, and build solid credit skills by receiving wisdom from peers, mentors and managers, all of whom share a spirit of collaboration and excellence.
The most valuable tool I have as a graduate is the license to ask questions. There is never too silly a question and the sooner I ask it, the sooner I am able to accelerate my learning and contribute in adding value to my team. I highly recommend entering into the Risk Management stream of CommBank as a great foundation to a banking and finance career!
