    Your Role:

As a Mechanical Engineer Submariner (also known as Marine Engineer Submariner), you're in charge of keeping the submarine moving. You'll get more responsibility early in your career than most civilian engineer roles and have opportunities to travel overseas.

In this extraordinary role, you'll play a crucial part in keeping the submarine running. You'll work as part of a tight-knit team to manage propulsion, provide electricity and maintain air flow. This keeps the crew comfortable and the submarine propelling, placing Mechanical Engineer Submariners at the very core of sub-surface Navy operations.

If you're looking for a job that pushes you outside your comfort zone and helps you gain confidence alongside a great team of people, then a role as a Mechanical Engineer Submariner could be for you.

The professional development you gain as a Navy Engineer enables automatic Chartered Engineer (CPEng) accreditation with Engineers Australia, giving you international recognition of your Engineering competency.

You'll be responsible for a variety of systems and structures. Some of these include, but aren't limited to:

    • The submarine's structure,
    • Propulsion systems,
    • Electrical generation and distribution,
    • Domestic and associated mechanical services,
    • Main and auxiliary machinery,
    • Engines,
    • Air conditioning, and,
    • Hydraulics.

Life as a Mechanical Engineer Submariner is constantly changing, with new technologies and challenges regularly emerging. To meet these challenges, you'll complete a variety of internal courses and will have the opportunity for postgrad training at different universities throughout your career.

There are also a wide variety of shore based positions for periods when you are not posted to a submarine including operational planning, project management, career management and general managerial roles.

    Life in the Navy:

Life in the Navy is anything but mundane. You'll enjoy varied lifestyles, rewarding careers, opportunities to travel the world, and excellent social and fitness facilities, free medical and dental; all in a dynamic and fulfilling working environment.

Don't worry, it's not all life at sea—there's more to the Navy than ships, submarines and helicopters. Some days, you might be exploring exciting new countries with your fellow crewmates. Other days, you could be stationed locally not too far from home.

    Salary:

Be paid to train and learn the skills required to become a qualified Mechanical Engineer Submariner. Upon completion of your initial military and employment training, you'll enjoy a competitive starting salary package of up to $128,390 which includes a submarine maritime allowance while serving at sea.

In addition to your salary, you will receive generous superannuation, housing subsidies and free medical and dental.
