Students must pass the first year of their BEc degree, including the units LAW121 Introduction to Law and LAW122 Legal Systems, available at Hobart, Launceston and the Cradle Coast Campus, or the academic equivalent.
Assessment of applications is based on academic merit, taking into consideration previous university studies.
The three methods of entry are:
Direct Entry (for Year 12 leavers only)
To be qualified for University entry with a ATAR score of 90 or above (limited places available in this entry category); or
Alternative Entry
A first year in another faculty, which includes the units LAW121 Introduction to Law and LAW122 Legal Systems (or the academic equivalent); or
Graduate Entry
An Australian bachelor degree or equivalent.
English Language Requirement: IELTS Score 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0); TOEFL (PBT) 600 TWE 4.5; TOEFL (IBT) 92 (no score below 20); PTE Academic 58 with no score lower than 50; UTAS DEAP Overall 65% (Writing 60%).
Admission Prerequisites
Entrants to the Bachelor of Economics must have completed Mathematics Applied TQA 3 (MTA315109) or an equivalent pre-tertiary or higher level mathematics subject. Applicants who do not have the mathematics prerequisite and who wish to enrol in the BEc should contact the TSBE Academic Administration Office on 1800 030 955 or enquiries@business.utas.edu.au concerning a pathway into this degree. Students returning to study either after a long absence or new students who have the mathematics prerequisite but who lack confidence in their quantitative skills should enrol in UPP075 Bridging Maths, or BEA109 Introduction to Quantitative Methods or KMA003 Mathematics Foundation Unit, before enrolling in the core BEc units BEA140 Quantitative Methods or BEA142 Quantitative Economic Analysis.
International students who have the mathematics prerequisite but who lack confidence in their quantitative skills and who would like to undertake a mathematics bridging program may only take BEA109.
